The People Behind...

The Cambie Chiropractic Centre
Vancouver, BC

Dr. Jeffrey Quon and his late wife, Dr. Pauline Fedder, originally opened The Cambie Chiropractic Centre in January of 1994. In December of 2017 the clinic was moved from its original setting in South Vancouver-Langara to its new location in Kitsilano-Arbutus Ridge. Here, Dr. Art Lopes has operated a multidisciplinary clinic since 1991.

Dr. Jeffrey Quon graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) in Toronto. Afterward he completed a postgraduate residency program in chiropractic clinical sciences, which included an internship in combined orthopaedics, neurology, rheumatology and pain management at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon.

Dr. Quon has been practicing in his hometown of Vancouver since 1988. He is fellowship-certified as a specialist in clinical sciences by the College of Chiropractic Sciences of Canada. Since 1992 he has been the Chiropractic Consultant for WorkSafeBC. He is a peer-reviewer for The Spine Journal, an editorial board member for Chiropractic & Manual Therapies, and an Associate Editor for The Journal of the Canadian Chiropractic Association.

Dr. Quon is also an epidemiologist and active health care researcher. He has a Master of Health Science (MHSc) degree and a Doctorate (PhD) in Epidemiology from the University of British Columbia (UBC). He is a Clinical Associate Professor in the School of Population and Public Health in the Faculty of Medicine at UBC.

His latest research interests are in knowledge translation and the effectiveness of complex interventions for axial spine pain. As the academic lead for the British Columbia Chiropractic Practice-Based Research Network, he promotes knowledge implementation by directly involving grassroots chiropractors in the analysis and interpretation of data from research conducted within their own private practices.

During his leisure time he pursues a variety of physical activities including hiking, cycling, running, windsurfing, stand up paddle board surfing, skiing, and both snow- and skateboarding. If truth be told, however, his central passion is eating!

Dr. Pauline Fedder was a co-founder and the managing partner of The Cambie Chiropractic Centre. She attended the University of Toronto for her undergraduate studies and completed her Doctor of Chiropractic degree at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto in 1986. She was originally from Toronto, and after practicing there for a brief period she moved to Vancouver where she maintained a busy practice in Richmond until 1993.

For many years, Dr. Fedder was a board examiner for the British Columbia College of Chiropractors. During that same period she represented the BC Chiropractic Association on a number of committees to promote health and safety in the workplace. And as a member of the interview team for the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College Admissions Committee she participated in the evaluation and selection of local applicants for the Doctor of Chiropractic degree program at CMCC.

Dr. Fedder was an active volunteer in the community and was heavily involved in promoting and establishing fitness programs for children in local elementary schools. She lectured on health, wellness and injury prevention to students, working professionals, other health care providers, and running groups. During the latter part of her career she became involved in clinical research and conducted systematic reviews of the scientific literature on a variety of general medical and health-related topics. She also helped to mentor chiropractic students and recent graduates at The Cambie Chiropractic Centre.

In life, Dr. Fedder was a beloved healer, wife, mother, daughter, sibling, aunt, cousin, and friend. She had passions for travel and reading, and also a myriad of outdoor activities that included swimming, running, hiking, cycling, skiing, snowboarding, windsurfing, stand up paddle boarding, and longboard surfing. Her beautiful, unbridled spirit is forever a part of The Cambie Chiropractic Centre.

Dr. Art Lopes graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from UBC in 1984. In 1988, he graduated from CMCC in Toronto. Afterward he completed a postgraduate residency program in chiropractic clinical sciences, which involved advanced academic training at CMCC and an additional hospital-based internship in combined orthopaedics, neurology, rheumatology and pain management at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. In Toronto, he was a Clinical Instructor at CMCC, however in 1991 he returned to his hometown of Vancouver where he has been in private practice ever since.

Dr. Lopes is also fellowship-certified as a specialist in clinical sciences by the College of Chiropractic Sciences of Canada. In the past, he has served as an examiner for both the College of Chiropractors of British Columbia and the College of Chiropractic Sciences of Canada. He is also a past-member of the Standards of Practice Consensus Group of the Canadian Chiropractic Association, the External Review Team of the Canadian Chiropractic Guideline Initiative, and the interview team for the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College Admissions Committee.

In his leisure time Dr. Lopes pursues a variety of interests and activities including road cycling, yoga, golf and weight-training. He also personally operates an around-the-clock Uber service—exclusively for his daughters!
